LOOK: Red Ribbon Bakeshop Opens First Store in Philadelphia
From local to international shores, the opening of Red Ribbon Bakeshop in Philadelphia marks the brand’s 39th location in the United States.
With the right business acumen and impressive products to show for, a homegrown business can grow into a brand giant—one that is well-loved by many. In the case of Red Ribbon Bakeshop, this is exactly what happened.
From its humble beginnings in 1979 as a hobby-induced business in Timog, Quezon City, Red Ribbon expanded into a Filipino-owned and professionally-run business. With over 450 outlets all over the Philippines, it has become a staple in every Filipino family’s celebrations and special occasions.
After being acquired in October 2005 by Jollibee Foods Corporation, Red Ribbon became one of the biggest and fastest-growing bakeshops in the country. This helped the bakeshop expand its reach even further, even touching international shores, starting with the United States.
Last October 15, 2022, Red Ribbon opened its first store in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Located at 2201 Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, this spot marks its 39th store in the US, with its first branch set in West Covina, California in 1984.
The First of its Kind in Sunny Philadelphia
As part of Jollibee Group’s growth plans in North America, this Philadelphia branch is set in a prime location within the Great Northeast Plaza shopping center—near the busy ‘Cottman and Bustleton intersection. What’s more, this Red Ribbon branch is the 5th of its kind for 2022, as the brand has opened new branches in Houston, Texas, and Bolingbrook, Illinois.
“We are excited to finally open our doors in the wonderful city of Philadelphia and serve both our loyal fans and newcomers our special bakery brand,” says Agnes Briones, Business Unit Head, Red Ribbon Bakeshop, Inc.
News of the bakeshop’s opening has amassed a long queue of customers, who excitedly waited for hours, with its first customer, Albert Sulit, lining up the night before opening.
“As the city’s most culturally dynamic area known for its diverse food scene, Northeast Philly provides the perfect place for us to entice new customers who want to treat themselves to something deliciously different, like our mouthwatering Mango Supreme Cake and our melt-in-your-mouth Butter Mamon pastries,” Briones adds.
Known for its wide selection of baked goods—inspired by authentic Filipino flavors and ingredients—Red Ribbon is foremost known for its crafted cakes. These celebration must-haves have graced the tables and celebrations of many families, both here and abroad.
But beyond cakes, the bakeshop also offers sweet and savory pastries, which include Butter Mamon, Cheesy Ensaimada, Chicken Empanada, Mango Supreme, Ube Overload Cake, Yema Caramel Cake, and Black Forest Cake among others.
