LOOK: Real Estate Giant Set to Open the First MITSUKOSHI in the Philippines

From the Land of the Rising Sun to the sunny shores of the Philippines, Japanese department store MITSUKOSHI is set to open its first branch by the end of 2022.

More often than not, Japan is a top-of-mind choice for traveling, as the country promises a wide range of food, apparel, cosmetics, and more. But with the two-year standstill from the pandemic, shopping in Japan has been put on hold.

Until now, that is.

Premier real estate developer Federal Land is set to open the first MITSUKOSHI here in the Philippines—specifically at Bonifacio Global City. And while the groundwork was laid out as early as 2019, Federal Land president and chief operating officer Tom Mirasol confirmed in a virtual press conference that the mall would open by the end of 2022.

A Taste of Japan in the Philippines

MITSUKOSHI is an international department store chain with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Founded in 1673 by Mitsui Takatoshi, it first started out as a door-to-door kimono shop, then changed its approach a decade after by setting up a store where buyers can buy goods on the spot.

To date, MITSUKOSHI offers a wide range of products—from food to personal care, home, apparel, and more—in many branches around the world. In fact, the local branch will be located within Federal Land’s Grand Central Park community in Bonifacio Global City.

A four-level mall that showcases Japanese design elements in a casual but elegant setting, MITSUKOSHI BGC covers an area of 15,000 square meters total—housing approximately 120 merchants of premium retail stores that are rich in Japanese culture and style.

Four Themed Floors of Fun

Shoppers and fans will have a lot to look forward to, as MITSUKOSHI BGC will feature four themed floors: “Tasty Life” (Basement 1), “Beautiful Life” (Ground Floor), “Inspired Life” (Second Floor), and “Entertainment Life” (Third Floor).

Foodies can relish in Tasty Life’s Japanese-inspired culinary offerings at Basement 1. Its upscale supermarket—MITSUKOSHI Fresh—is a place for fresh produce and imported delicacies, while the food court and sweets and deli corner feature just as many dishes in its nicely curated interior design.

On the other hand, the Ground Floor houses a beauty store called MITSUKOSHI Beauty, which houses natural and organic cosmetic brands, as well as fashion apparel and lifestyle products. For a more beautiful lifestyle, guests can even treat themselves to beauty salon service with meticulous techniques in the mall’s open salon.

For more delicious Japanese eats, the Inspired Life—located on the Second Floor—highlights the vibrant Japanese culinary scene with a number of Japanese dining options and a selection of international food choices. Bookworms can also visit the Japanese bookstore on this very same floor.

And lastly, Entertainment Life will offer unique Japanese entertainment options, which are perfect for all ages. What fun!

Service From the Heart

Like all of its stores in Tokyo, MITSUKOSHI BGC will proudly embody omotenashi—or simply, world-famous Japanese hospitality. A wholehearted service that seeks to anticipate the customer’s needs even before they are expressed, the goal is to offer whatever is required to meet said needs. At MITSUKOSHI BGC, that includes a thoughtfully-wrapped package, a memorable food presentation, or an efficient concierge.

Beyond a world-class mall experience, MITSUKOSHI BGC will also anchor The Seasons Residence. This upscale Japanese-inspired residential development will be built by Federal Land, Inc. in partnership with Japan’s leading firms Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd.

The Seasons Residences is a seamless fusion of the Japanese tradition of innovation and artistry, together with the Filipino sense of community.
